Why is there only February 28th?(How the calendar was created)
Calendar dates are usually 30 and 31 days
Except for just one month in February
But it is strange..
The beginning of the year is January and the end is December
However, the shortest month is February, not December.
Why did this happen?
The calendar was first used by ancient Romans.
They used only ten months a year.
March of now was January at that time
It is easy to see the Latin used by the Romans
The sept, which means September, is the 7th in Latin.
The Oct, which means October is the 8th in Latin
Later, Roman emperor Numa Pompilius added two months to make 12 months a year
Numa's calendar was created by looking at the movement of the moon.
At that time people thought the earth was circling the moon.
So one year was 355 days.
The Romans thought of the even number as an ominous number.
So Numa assigned January, March, May, and August 31st.
And the rest of the month was 30 days.
But this will be 356 days a year.
(1, 3, 5, 8 = 31 / 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 = 29)
(31*4 + 29*8 = 356)
So Numa subtracted one day from December, the last month
As a result, December was 28th
Julius Caesar revises Numa's calendar in 45 BC
Because the Earth has been found to be turning around the sun, not the moon.
The result was 365.25 days a year
He assigned 31 days in odd months and 30 days in even months.
This makes 366 days a year
(31*6 + 30*6 = 366)
So he takes one day off in December.
But this leaves 0.25 days.
Multiplication of 0.25 by 4 makes it 1
He added one more every four years.
This is a leap month.
He unveiled his new calendar on November 1, when he changed November to January
So May changed to July
Caesar was born in July.
So he changed the name of Quintilis to July
The name of July was originally Quintilis
And then Quintilis was in May.
So November was changed to January and December was changed to February.
Originally, the date of December was short,
but Caesar pushed for two months, shortening February.
Following Julius Caesar, Augustus became emperor
Augustus wanted to be higher than Caesar.
So he changed the name of August to his own name.
August original name was sextilis
(sextilis means sixth. Caesar pushed for two months, and it was August.)
At that time, August was until 30th.
He did not like the Emperor's Moon to have a date less than any other month
So he took one day out of February with a little date.
And he added a day in August.
This way, the calendar we use now is created
